Carnival Wanes

The final hours of Carnival were received with merriment as the revelers danced in the streets and packed the beaches. A capacity crowd of 60,000 were treated to the samba group Beija Flor and watched as a gilded hummingbird float entered the stadium.

Brazil to Do Assembly

Hyundai which is based in South Korea and is the world's sixth largest automaker announces that it will be sending parts to Gaoias for assembly by Caoa Montadora SA. These parts will enable the assembly of 50,000 pickup trucks and SUV's a year.

Cause of Crash Unknown

A bus crashed into a truck in southeastern Brazil and around midnight. The cause of the crash, which killed fourteen people and injured 22, was not immediately known.

A private jet involved in Brazil's worst every air crash gave up it's black box to reveal a series of errors and misunderstandings among traffic controllers which may have contributed to the crash. The Gol plane crashed in the jungle and killed everyone on board.

Arrest in Framingham Mass

Vender Pedro Silveira, 42, convicted of murder in Brazil more than two years ago was arrested and is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Framingham. This was the third arrest since 2005 of a Brazilian immigrant convicted of murder.

Government Suspends Food Handouts

Malnutrition of thousands of Indians in southwestern Brazil have worsened because of a suspension of food handouts by the government. This has caused at least two young children to die.

Soap Opera Creates Doll

Clarinha, played by Joana Mocarzel, has run away with the hearts of the soap opera fans. This success has lead to a doll being put into production which will bear the features of the genetic disorder of Down's Syndrome.

Black Ball Band Helps Cast Off Violence

The first full day of celebrations have always been lead by the Black Ball band and this year was no different. The only difference was that violence was put aside by the citizens for the first time in weeks as they danced and listened to the band.

Draw Gives Bazil Easier Route

Because Brazil lost 1-0 against Mexico they have been put into Group B along with Mexico, Ecuador and Chile. This will give them an easier route to the finals. Under the direction of their new coach Dunga the competition realizes they will have a tougher time beating Brazil.
