Slavery Still a Problem

Brazil is on the State Department's special watch list. Despite much effort on the part of the government, the trafficking of persns and forced labor is hard to control, and while many countries have made progress, Brazil is not counted among them.

Miss Brazil Disappears

Miss Brazil has not been in touch with her family in six months and police are not ruling out the possibility of human trafficking as being the cause. The family only reported her missing on Thursday and investigations started on Friday.

Trade Talks to continue in March or April Hopefully

Celso Amorim, Brazil's minister of foreign relations is very hopeful that the WTO trade talks will continue in March or April after being stalled last July. He stated he felt a sense of urgency which he didn't feel before after a meeting with 30 other trade ministers.

Continued Terrorism Threatened

On Friday Brazilian President Luiz Inacia Lula da Silva suggested rich countries compromise in global free trade talks or risk continued terrorism, organized crime and other ills unless hope is given to the worlds poorest countries.
