In an effort to protect the world's largest rain forest from continued deforestation, Brazil's environmental minister has reached an agreement with soy produces to ban purchases taken from the forests of the Amazon. Carlos Minc, the newly-appointed minister, said that this will be also done in the beef and timber sectors.Because of the continuous rise of grain prices, farmers are forced to create more land to plant grains on, cutting Amazon trees in the process.
