A worsening US recession and lessening confidence in the new US administration's economic stimulus plan forced the Brazilian stock market and currency to slump and perform its worse in recent months, reflecting the gloom and doom in the US economy.
The Bovespa Index slumped 4.77 percent to 39,846.97 points, its worse one-day drop in over a month.
