Is it really beneficial to host the World Cup?

After spending a huge amount of money just to build the structures needed to host the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, I'm sure that a lot of Brazilians and people looking at this country are asking if it is worth it to host the FIFA event at all, considering that it is projected to not gain enough revenues for Brazil?~~

The government should do something to extensively and strategically market this event to get its return on investment and be able to use their earnings for social projects that badly need its attention.
